New Delhi:- Kedarnath Temple, situated in the heights of the Himalayas, is one of the holiest Shiva temples in the country. This ancient temple is more than 1200 years old. The thing to note here is that no one knows about the right time to build the Kedarnath temple, it still remains a mystery. Many things have been written about its construction in historical texts and legends. But there is no concrete evidence. According to some beliefs, it was made by the Pandavas of Mahabharata. While some scholars consider it to be rebuilt by Adi Shankaracharya.
Excellent sample of Himalayan architecture
This temple, built at an altitude of 11,755 feet (3,583 m) above sea level, is known for its special architecture. The temple is constructed with huge stone rocks. Those who are kept without cement or any modern added chemical. This temple has been adamant for centuries despite fierce earthquakes, snowfall and natural disasters. The beautiful carving on its walls still shows its grandeur.
Miraculously survived temple in 2013 floods
In 2013, when the entire area was destroyed in the devastating floods in Uttarakhand. Then the Kedarnath temple remained safely saved. In this disaster, areas around the temple were badly damaged. But the temple did not suffer much damage. It is believed that a huge stone named 'Bhima Shila' came behind the temple. Which turned the flood water away from the temple. Devotees consider this miracle to be the grace of Lord Shiva.
Major place in Panch Kedar
Kedarnath Temple is considered to be the most important of the five holy Shiva temples named Panch Kedar. According to the legend, after the war of Mahabharata, the Pandavas came to seek blessings from Lord Shiva to atone for their sins. Shiva took the form of a bull to avoid them and merged into the earth. Different parts of his body appeared in different places .. In the humping Kedarnath, the arms in Tungnath, in the mouth Rudranath, the navel in Madhyamheshwar and in Jata Kalpeshwar. These five temples together are called Panch Kedar.
The temple remains open for only six months
The journey of Kedarnath temple is not easy .. Because this place remains open to devotees only six months of the year. The temple is closed during winter due to too much cold and heavy snowfall. During this time, the idol of Lord Kedarnath is brought to Ukhimath .. where he is worshiped.
