Trevor Noah's opening monologue caused quite the stir as he took on the hosting duties for the for the fifth consecutive year.


The comedian's opening joke about immigration didn't go down well with viewers. The comic made recent mass deportations during his opening monologue, saying: "We're going to be honouring the best in music as voted on by the 13,000 members of the Recording Academy...and 20 million illegal immigrants," adding that he plans to enjoy the night because it "may be the last time I host anything in this country."


In another instance, while introducing singer Shakira, he referred to her as 'the greatest thing out of that isn't a class A felony".



Celebrities in the audience showed their disapproval of some of his jokes, with rapper Doechii visibly rolling her eyes and others remaining stone-faced. Fans also took to social media to react to Trevor's monologue, with one writing on X, formerly : "Trevor Noah already with an illegal immigrants joke and a Colombia joke in his opening monologue.... This is going to be a LONGGGG night."


Another added: "Trevor and the illegal immigrant 'joke' was corny. " While a third wrote "Trevor Noah sold himself, used to be funny not anymore." Another user asked: "Is this the Grammys or Trevor Noah's political hour?," reports .


Despite Trevor's awkward jokes, the Grammy Awards were filled with incredible wins, moving speeches, and unforgettable performances.


A host of star-studded talent graced the stage to perform at the awards, including Benson Boone, Billie Eilish, Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard, Chappell Roan, Charli xcx, Coldplay's Chris Martin, Cynthia Erivo, Doechii, Herbie Hancock, Jacob Collier, Janelle Monáe, John Legend, Lainey Wilson, RAYE, Sabrina Carpenter, Shakira, Sheryl Crow, St. Vincent, Stevie Wonder, and Teddy Swims. A number of presenters also took part in honouring the best in music, such as Anthony Kiedis and Chad Smith, Cardi B, Gloria Estefan, Olivia Rodrigo, Queen Latifah, , and Victoria Monét.


finally took home the coveted Album of the Year gong, beating the likes of Billie Eilish to the award. It marked her first ever time winning the accolade as she thanked husband in her acceptance speech.


Kendrick Lamar was given the Song of the Year award for his huge hit Not Like Us. He was handed the award by the iconic Diana Ross, with some fans thinking she threw shade at him by her surprised reaction to the announcement.
