Scientists of the National Research Council of Italy have succeeded in converting light into solid state for the first time. This achievement is being considered an important milestone in quantum physics.

Light Transformation to Solid: Italian scientists have created history with a unique discovery. Actually, these scientists have succeeded in converting light into solid state, which is being considered a historic discovery in quantum physics.

According to this research, light can behave as a supersolid, which is a rare state. This research, recently published in the journal 'Nature', is expected to revolutionize quantum computing and optical technologies.

What is supersolid light?

Actually, the supersolid state is a rare quantum state, which was considered very difficult to achieve. Earlier scientists had found it possible only at extremely cold temperatures, but now new research has shown that this state can be created under normal conditions as well. Till now, the supersolid state was observed only in Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC), which is formed when boson particles are cooled to near-zero temperatures, but now, scientists from Italy's National Research Council and the University of Pavia have shown that light can also turn into a supersolid state.

How did scientists 'freeze' the light?

In this study, instead of the traditional freezing process, scientists used quantum techniques. Scientists used a structure made of gallium arsenide, which had microscopic ridges. By firing a laser at this platform, hybrid light-matter particles, called polaritons, were created.

When the number of photons increased, scientists observed patterns indicating supersolidity. Researchers say, "At temperatures close to absolute zero, quantum effects emerge. This is the beginning of understanding supersolidity in light."

Supersolid light can make quantum bits (qubits) more stable, which can accelerate quantum computing. This discovery will help in the development of optical devices, photonic circuits and sensitive quantum detectors. In the future, this technology will be further refined, which will allow supersolid light to be made in a more stable and controlled manner.

Can light be made into a liquid?

Not just a solid, scientists have previously proven that light can flow like a liquid. This time, scientists have transformed it into a new state called a "quantum supersolid."

Italian scientists create history

This achievement of Italian scientists will not only help in understanding the physical properties of light, but it can also revolutionize the development of new quantum materials and technologies. In the coming years, this discovery can lead to new possibilities in the field of quantum technology and optics.
