This prestigious program was given by Bhushan Gagrani in JVPD Grounds, IAS Officer, Municipal Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC); Rear Admiral Anil Jaggi, Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area; Dhanushkodi Shivanandan, former Police Commissioner, Maharashtra; Shilpa Khanna CFO fast and up; Vinay Bhartia, co-founder, Justwalkindia flagged off and showed a beautiful route leading to Juhu Beach via Shri Amitabh Bachchan's bungalow, which ended back on JVPD Grounds.
The program started at 6:00 am with a 10 km pro walk, which was followed by 42% of the dedicated walkers, followed by 44% walkers in the 5 km family walk at 6:20 am and 14% participants participated in 3 km of fun walk at 6:40 am. SK Maidul Islam, a professional walker athlete from Pune, said, “Such an event will help the professional athlete to move forward and he will enjoy competition. Such events will help spread awareness about Walkathon through this event.
One of the most inspiring attractions of Walkathon was the participation of 10 persons with artificial legs, which walked with remarkable energy and determination, which really reflects the feeling of flexibility and perseverance. In this inaugural edition, women performed 52% to 48% more than men in all three categories. 75 -year -old Urmila Bhatia said, “It was a great event and she enjoyed walking and she has been walking since childhood.
Bhatia said, “She wants the younger generation to move forward with TV screen and mobile phones and start walking and be part of such events to keep herself fit.” The family walk was a heart-touching spectacle, which confirmed this motto, “The family who walks together remains fit together.” Attending the festival, eight participants celebrated their birthdays at the event, and made a memorable and healthy start of their special day.
Wheel-Chair participant Niranjan Jadhav said, “Such an event will give everyone confidence and people will get out to keep themselves fit. This is a simple way to stay fit through walking.” Participants collectively took over 44,000 million steps, the inaugural edition of the Mumbai Walkathon successfully promoted the pleasure of walking in the form of fitness, inclusion and lifestyle. Justwalkindia co-founder Vinay Bhartia said, “Fast and up Mumbai Walkathon is to give a platform to our citizens to start their fitness journey. Welcoming more than 5000 participants was a humble experience. We are sure that many more people will be encouraged to join us.
