The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has left no stone unturned in making the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opening ceremony an exhilarating affair with some superstars and a certain 'King Khan' set to entertain the fans with their performances. The gala ceremony will be held exclusively at Eden Gardens, Kolkata for the first time since 2015. Stars will set the stage ablaze on Saturday, March 22, right before the opening encounter between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

The opening ceremony is set to begin at 6 PM (IST). Shah Rukh Khan is scheduled to deliver a monologue a few minutes later. Shortly after this, the legendary Shreya Ghoshal will mesmerise the crowd with her phenomenal voice. Bollywood actress Disha Patani will groove to some foot-tapping numbers after Ghoshal's gig. Following this, Indian rapper and singer Karan Aujla will make his presence felt.

Shah Rukh will be seen again as he will be interacting with the cricketers before inviting the BCCI officials and celebrities on stage. Cake cutting, balloon release, and drone show are also lined up for the evening before the main attraction, the season opener between two popular teams, gets underway.

Saturday, March 22, 2025; Before KKR vs RCB Match

Shreya Ghoshal, Disha Patani and Karan Aujla are confirmed to perform at the event. 

Star Sports will telecast the opening ceremony of IPL 2025 on TV while the live streaming will be available on JioHotstar.

KKR and RCB are starting new eras with new captains at the helm in Fans are waiting with bated breath for what promises to be an epic clash. However, the weather Gods seem to be in a different mood altogether.

Persistent rain on Friday evening forced an early end to the practice sessions for both teams. The pitch and ground remained under covers. Eden Gardens is one of the few grounds to have a full ground cover. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an "orange alert" for Friday and Saturday. Thundersqualls and gusty winds are expected during the match hours. Several districts of West Bengal, including Kolkata will experience moderate rainfall.
