The world's most famous race will steal the show this afternoon, with the taking centre stage at Aintree. A confirmed line-up of 34 runners will be looking to snatch the crown away from last year's winner, I Am Maximus. He was ridden to glory by Paul Townend, bolting ahead of his rivals after the final fence, and is aiming for back-to-back victories in 2025.

There will be plenty of competition for the grand prize, though. Stumptown, trained by Gavin Cromwell, is considered the bookies' favourite with I Am Maximus only having the fifth-shortest odds. The likes of Iroko, Intense Battles, Hewick and Vanillier could also be in with a chance of victory, which will come with a significant amount of prize money.

Express Sport takes a look at how much the winner of today's Grand National will receive...

Grand National prize money 2025

Previously, the total prize pot was reduced to £750,000 during the Covid-19 pandemic. It has since increased to a whopping £1million, with only the top 10 finishers taking home a slice of the pie.

Owners tend to receive about 80 per cent of the money and the remainder is usually split between trainers, jockeys and stable staff. The total amount of prize money up for grabs is the same as last year.

It will be distributed as follows...

Winner - £500,000
Runner-up - £200,000
Third place - £100,000
Fourth place - £65,000
Fifth place - £40,000
Sixth place - £30,000
Seventh place - £20,000
Eighth place - £15,000
Ninth place - £10,000
10th place - £5,000
