Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) may have clinched a solid victory over Mumbai Indians on April 7, but not everything ended on a high note for their captain Rajat Patidar. The young skipper has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during the match — making him the fourth captain in IPL 2025 to face this penalty.
As per an official statement issued by the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajat Patidar was found guilty under Section 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with maintaining the pace of play. Since this was RCB's first offense this season, the standard fine of Rs 12 lakh was imposed on the captain.
The league has strict rules in place to ensure that matches progress within the stipulated time, and over-rate violations are taken seriously.
The penalty was imposed for the match between RCB and Mumbai Indians, where Patidar not only led the team to victory but also played a crucial role with the bat. He scored a blistering 64 off 32 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 5 fours at a strike rate of 200. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
However, the slow over rate during the second innings overshadowed the celebrations slightly, landing him in trouble despite the win.
Rajat Patidar joins the list of three other captains who have already been penalized in IPL 2025:
All of them received a Rs 12 lakh fine for their respective teams’ first slow over-rate offenses.
Despite the setback, Rajat Patidar’s leadership has been a bright spot for RCB this season. The team has won three out of their first four matches, and Patidar’s form with the bat has added a much-needed edge at the top.
RCB fans will be hoping that the team maintains its momentum — and its over rate — as the tournament progresses.
